TRUCK ENGINE AD55 (ANW1-Up, DNW1-Up)
Component Code(s) 3106, 0645SUBJECT: Torque Converter and Updrive Gp may fail prematurely in the AD55 Underground Articulated Truck.
PROBLEM:
There have been reports of torque converter and updrive gp bearings failing prematurely when the machine is operating in high load/high ambient temperature conditions. Initial analysis has revealed bearing preload or lubrication film related issues.
SOLUTION:
Changing the oil viscosity in the transmission compartment from SAE30 to Caterpillar TDTO SAE50 when operating in high load/high ambient temperature conditions will increase the service life of the torque converter and updrive gp components.
Note: Warm up the oil prior to operation if the minimum ambient temperature decreases below 10?C. For information on warming up the oil refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, AD55 Underground Articulated Truck, "Engine and Machine Warm-Up".
