Start By:a. remove belts 1. Use a vehicle with forks to support inboard idler wheel (3). Remove two bolts (2), and remove the idler wheel from the spindle assembly. The weight of the idler wheel is 170 kg (375 lb).2. Remove drain plug (1), and drain the oil from the spindle assembly. The capacity of the spindle assembly is 500 mL (17 fl oz). 3. Remove bolts (4), and remove hub cap (19) and gasket (17) from hub (7).4. Bend the tang of lockwasher (18) away from the slot in nut (20).5. Remove nut (20) from spindle (10) with tool (A), and remove lockwasher (18), washer (5), and bearing cone (6).6. Use two persons, and remove hub (7) from spindle (10). The weight of the hub is 27 kg (60 lb).7. Remove Duo-Cone seal (14) from hub (7) and remove Duo-Cone seal (13) from spindle (10).8. Remove bearing cone (15) and bearing cups (8) and (16) from hub (7).9. Remove six bolts (9), and use three 5/8" - 11 NC forcing screws to remove spindle (10) and shim (12) from axle (11). The following steps are for installation of the spindle assembly.10. Install three 7/8" - 9 NC guide bolts in the axle. Align the hole pattern on shim (12) with the hole pattern on the axle, and put shim (12) and spindle (10) in position. Install three bolts (9), and remove the guide bolts. Install the remaining three bolts (9).11. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (8) and (16), and install the bearing cups in hub (7).12. Position hub (7) with the hub cap end down, and install bearing cone (15).

The rubber seals and all surfaces that make contact with the seals must be clean and dry. After installation of the seals, put clean oil on the contact surfaces of the metal seals.13. Install Duo-Cone seal (14) in hub (7) with tool (B).14. Install Duo-Cone seal (13) in spindle (10) with tool (B).15. Use two persons, and put hub (7) in position on spindle (10).16. Install bearing cone (6), washer (5), lockwasher (18), and nut (20) on spindle (10). Do not tighten nut (20) at this time.17. Use the following steps to achieve the correct bearing adjustment:a. Be sure that bearing cone (6) slides easily on the spindle and nut (20) rotates freely on the spindle threads.b. Oscillate the hub 30 degrees back and forth while using tool (A) to tighten nut (20) to a torque of 408 41 N m (300 30 lb ft).c. Loosen nut (20) to a torque of 67 41 N m (50 30 lb ft).d. Oscillate the hub 30 degrees back and forth while using tool (A) to tighten nut (20) to a torque of 237 24 N m (175 18 lb ft).e. If any of the tangs on lockwasher (18) aligned with one of the slots in nut (20), bend the aligned tang into engagement with the slot
