Mounting the ECM with the 256-0501 Plates

Exploded view of the mounting of the ECM with 256-0501 Plate (9) 9X-2546 Bolt (10) 256-0501 Plate The 256-0501 Plate (10) can be secured to a mounting surface on the machine that has been predrilled.Perform the following procedure in order to install the ECM by using the 256-0501 Plates :Note: When you access the machine, be sure to observe safe procedures for access. Maintain a three-point contact and/or use a body harness.
Select a mounting location. Refer to ""Selecting a Location for the ECM"" for guidelines.
Use the 256-0501 Plate as an installation template.If holes have not been predrilled, perform the following procedure:
Use the 256-0501 Plate in order to mark the location on the mounting surface.
Mark the location for each of the mounting holes. Remove the plate.
Drill a 4 mm (11/64 inch) hole at each marked location.
Tap each hole with a M6 x 1 tap in order to provide the threaded holes for the bolts.
Secure the 256-0501 Plates to the mounting surface by using the four 9X-2546 Bolts (9) .
Place four 9X-6165 Washers (2) on the 256-0501 Plates at each mounting location.
Insert the eight 8C-5607 Isolation Mounts on the ECM. Refer to Illustration 5.
Place the ground strap (5) for the ECM on one of the mounting bolts. Refer to Illustration 3.
Insert four 8C-5608 Spacers between the 8C-5607 Isolation Mounts at each mounting location.
Place four 9X-6165 Washers on top of the 8C-5607 Isolation Mounts .
Use four 8C-8451 Bolts in order to secure the ECM to the 256-0501 Plates . Tighten the bolts to 12 N m (9 lb ft).Connecting the 348-2140 Control Harness
Perform the following procedure in order to connect the RIM Client harness:Note: When you access the machine, be sure to observe safe procedures for access. Maintain a three-point contact and/or use a body harness.
Connect the 70-pin connector from the 348-2140 Control Harness to the socket plug on the 285-1138 Electronic Control Module .

Schematic for custom harness
Connect the "ETHERNET/PWR" branch of the 348-2140 Control Harness to a third party radio that is on the AccuGrade machine. If an RJ45 connector is needed, connect the optional 348-2143 Adapter Cable (ETHERNET) to the connector that is provided.Note: If a custom harness must be fabricated, refer to Illustration 6.
Connect the "CAN/SERIAL/PWR" branch of the 348-2140 Control Harness to the radio harness of the AccuGrade system.

Typical example
Mount the "ET PORT" connector of the 348-2140 Control Harness into a panel of the machine or cable tie to an adjacent harness. Use the mounting hardware that is attached to the 348-2140 Control Harness .Note: Caterpillar recommends labelling the connector on the panel in order to be able to distinguish between other similar connectors.The connector is a 9-pin connector.
Secure loose cables to the machine with the 7K-1181 Cable Straps and the 113-8604 Cable Straps (15.5-IN) that are included in the 348-2141 Grade Control Gp .Note: The 2D-0388
