Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8330, "Transmission Control" section which explains the function of the shift pad while the oil level is being determined.The oil level should be checked before operating the transmission.Check the oil level of the transmission under the following conditions:
The transmission oil is warmed to operating temperature.
The engine is at LOW IDLE.
The transmission is in NEUTRAL.
The vehicle is on level ground.

Make sure that the oil is warm and that the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position. Make sure that the parking brake is engaged.
Remove dipstick gauge (1) and check the oil level.
Stop the engine. If necessary, add oil.
Install the dipstick.
