ACTION REQUIRED
Continue to monitor magnetic plug and take SOS samples as per OMM requirements. If SOS has high Fe and/or debris is on the plug take appropriate action. If the 178-8973 second reduction bearing assembly has failed, replace all 178-8973 Bearing Assemblies in the second reduction planetary carrier assembly with the 334-0229 Bearing Assemblies. The 359-4284 Planet Gear is to be used to replace only those gears that do not pass SEBF8193 Reusability Guidelines. Any gear that contains a failed bearing should be replaced.
Flushing of the differential and final drives to remove debris is required. The recommended target for cleanliness is ISO 18/15 or cleaner after any of the following activities: repair, rebuild and preventive maintenance. (Reference: SEPD0637 Service Magazine Change in Oil Change Interval for the Final Drive and the Rear Axle in Off-Highway Trucks)
