Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Some commercial oils that meet API specifications may require shorter oil change intervals. The oil change intervals are determined by close monitoring of the oil condition and engine wear metals. Caterpillar prefers the scheduled oil sampling as the proper method of checking engine wear metals.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for the latest oil recommendations.The machine must be level and the parking brake engaged. The oil must be warm and the engine stopped.

(1) Engine oil filters
Remove four used engine oil filters (1) and discard four used engine oil filters (1). Note: Engine oil filters (1) are located under the left front fender. Oil will be trapped in the filter housing bases. In order to avoid possible burns, remove four engine oil filters (1) when engine oil filters (1) are cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Also, the oil can be drained at the quick coupler. This quick coupling is located above the oil filters. Drain oil into a suitable container.
Clean the filter housing base. Make sure that all of the former gaskets are removed.
Apply a thin film of clean engine oil to each seal of each new engine oil filter (1).
Install new engine oil filters (1) by hand. Tighten each new filter until the seal of each new engine oil filter (1) contacts the base. Note the position of the index marks on each filter in relation to a fixed point on the filter base. Note: Caterpillar filters have rotation index marks that are spaced 90° or 1/4 of a turn away from each other. When you tighten the engine oil filters, use the rotation index marks as a guide.
Tighten each filter to the instructions that are printed on the filter. Use the index marks as a guide. Note: You may need to use a Caterpillar strap wrench, or another suitable tool, in order to turn the filters to the amount that is required for final installation. Make sure that the installation tool does not damage the filters.

Remove oil filler cap (2). If necessary, fill the crankcase with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities" for the type of oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill) " for the amount of oil.
Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle for five minutes. Inspect the engine oil filter for oil leaks. Make any necessary repairs.
