Boom Removal
1. Lower boom to ground and remove cable sheave blocks from boom. Reel in cables and hang or wire sheave blocks to pipelayer frame.
Block boom securely before attempting removal.
2. Remove hinge lock pins and hinge pins. Slide boom from hinge brackets.Counterweight Removal
1. Loosen set screws and remove bolts for both sets of segments. 2. Use a hoist to remove the counterweight segments. Do not nick the counterweight segment edges.Other Shipping Hints
Always block trailer or rail car wheels before loading.Remove ice, snow or other slippery material from truck bed, before loading to avoid load slipping in transit.Counterweight frame must be secured by safety bolts when transporting the pipelayer.Block and tie pipelayer securely to bed.Check with authorities for weight limits and overhead clearances of proposed route.Apply brake lock.Apply transmission safety lock.Remove disconnect key.Tip or cover operator's seat.Cover exhaust opening to prevent "turbocharger windmilling" in transit.
No side boom tractor shall be loaded beyond the maximum load capacity, except for test purposes. See the warning plate located on the machine for maximum load capacity ratings. When exceeding the ratings, the following requirements must be met:
1. An inspection prior to and following the lift reveals no defects in the cable.2. The maximum load capacity of the side boom is not exceeded.3. The load must be handled in such manner and at such speeds as to minimize tipping effects.4. The lift and inspections are made under controlled conditions under the direction of an appointed person.
Electrocution or serious bodily injury may occur unless a minimum clearance is maintained between the pipelayer or the load being handled and energized power lines according to the following chart:
