Connections of the intermediate speed sensor 1
This diagnostic code is associated with the Transmission Intermediate speed sensor. The FMI 02 diagnostic code means the ECM has determined the signal frequency or pulse width is not within the expected range. This diagnostic code occurs when one sensor records speed and the other sensors do not record speed.Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all of the connections in the circuit are clean and secure. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code CID 0674 FMI 02 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Note: Adjust the speed sensor before performing the following steps.Test Step 1. CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE CASE OF THE SENSOR
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the sensor.
Measure the resistance from contact 1 (wire E903-YL(Yellow)) and from contact 2 (wire E902-PU(Purple)) to the case of the sensor. Expected Result:The resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The resistance is NOT greater than 10,000 ohms. The speed sensor has failed.Repair: Replace the sensor.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE SENSOR
The machine harness connector remains disconnected.
Measure the resistance between contact 1 (wire E903-YL(Yellow)) and contact 2 (wire E902-PU(Purple)) of the connector of the sensor. Expected Result:The resistance is approximately 1100 100 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is approximately 1100 100 ohms. The resistance is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is NOT approximately 1100 100 ohms. The resistance is not correct. The sensor has failed.Repair: Replace the sensor.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK FOR AN OPEN WIRE IN THE MACHINE HARNESS.
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
Reconnect the machine harness connector to the sensor.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector, measure the resistance from contact J1-15 (wire E903-YL(Yellow)) to J1-16 (wire E902-PU(Purple)). Expected Result:The resistance is approximately 1100 100 ohms.Results:
OK - The resistance is approximately 1100 100 ohms. The circuit is correct. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - The resistance is NOT approximately 1100 100 ohms. The circuit is open in the machine harness. Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 4. CHECK FOR A SHORT IN THE RETURN CIRCUIT OF THE MACHINE HARNESS
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the sensor.
