Remove the bucket cylinder. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Bucket Cylinder - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Put the bucket cylinder on Tooling (A) (not shown). The weight of the bucket cylinder is approximately 1450 kg (3200 lb).
Remove ten bolts (15) that hold head (4) to cylinder assembly (1). Remove two bolts (8) that hold head (4) to cylinder assembly (1). Put identification on bolts (8) and (15) for installation purposes.
Use Tooling (A) (not shown) to slide rod assembly (5) out of cylinder assembly (1). Rod assembly (5), head (4), and piston (2) weigh approximately 764 kg (1685 lb).
Remove two wear rings (16), seal assembly (9) and two backup rings (10) from piston (2) .
Remove ten bolts (3) and the washers that hold piston (2) to rod assembly (5) .
Remove piston (2) from rod assembly (5). Piston (2) weighs approximately 38 kg (85 lb).Note: The following Step is performed in order to support the head during the removal.
Slide rod assembly (5) back into cylinder assembly (1). Rod assembly (5) weighs approximately 700 kg (1545 lb). Cylinder assembly (1) weighs approximately 686 kg (1515 lb).
Install 12 bolts (8) and (15) that hold head (4) to cylinder assembly (1) .
Pull rod assembly (5) out of cylinder assembly (1) and head (4) .
Remove the 12 bolts (8) and (15) that hold head (4) to cylinder assembly (1). Remove head (4) from cylinder assembly (1). Head (4) weighs approximately 26 kg (60 lb).
Remove O-ring seal (6) and backup ring (7) from head (4). Remove the following components from head (4) : wear ring (11), buffer seal assembly (12), U-cup seal (13) and wiper seal (14) .
