Stop the engine and drain the cleaning solution.8. Flush the system with clean water, until draining water is clean. Do not run the engine while flushing.9. Close the drain valve. Fill the system with neutralizing solution. 210. Start and run the engine for 10 minutes. Stop the engine and drain the neutralizing solution.11. Flush the system with clean water, until draining water is clean. Do not run the engine while flushing.12. Close the drain valve. Install the drain plug.13. Mix an antifreeze and water solution that will provide protection to the lowest expected ambient temperature. Do not completely fill cooling system. Allow for addition of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent.14. Add antifreeze solution. See REFILL CAPACITIES. To help avoid air locks, add coolant slowly, at 5 U.S. gallons (19 liters) per minute or less.15. Add 10.5 pints (5 liters) of Caterpillar Cooling System Conditioner, or equivalent, so that this cooling system will have a 3% concentration of conditioner.16. Start and run the engine with the radiator cap removed. Allow the coolant to warm and its level to stabilize.17. Add coolant, if necessary, to bring the level to the bottom of the fill pipe.18. Observe the condition of the radiator cap gasket. Replace it if it is damaged.(1)2 lb. Sodium Bisulfate (NaHSO4) per 10 U.S. gallons (1 kilogram per 40 liters) water.(2)1/2 lb. Always inspect cooling system with engine stopped.Remove radiator cap slowly to relieve pressure. Steam can cause personal injury.Conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Machine level, parking brake applied and engine stopped.1. Open the engine access cover.2. Loosen and remove the radiator cap slowly. 3. Remove the relief valve cover mounting bolts.4. Remove the relief valve.5. Clean the relief valve and cover it with a clean cloth. 6. Inspect the valve and the valve seal. Replace the valve assembly if valve or seal is damaged.7. Inspect the cover gasket. Replace it if it is damaged.8. Install the relief valve, cover and mounting bolts.9. Maintain the coolant level to within 1/2 inch (1 cm) of bottom of the fill pipe. Add coolant if necessary.10. Inspect the radiator cap gasket. Replace the gasket if it is damaged. Install the radiator cap.(53)Suspension Cylinders
