Unlatch and raise the engine hood. For the maximum performance and utilization of your engine, inspect the belts for wear and cracking. Check the belt tension. If the belt tension is too loose, the battery may not charge correctly, the engine may overheat, or premature belt wear may result. If the belt is tensioned too tight, damage to the belt or bearings could occur.To check the belt tension, apply 110 N (25 lbs) of force midway between the pulleys. Correctly adjusted belts will deflect 14 to 20 mm (9/16 to 13/16 inch).If new belt(s) are installed, check belt adjustment again after 30 minutes of operation. For multiple belt drive applications, always replace belts in matched sets. If only one belt of a matched set is replaced, it will carry more of a load than the belts not replaced since the older belts are stretched. The additional load on the new belt could cause it to break.Alternator Belt Adjustment
1. Loosen alternator bracket bolt (1). 2. Loosen bolt (2) and adjusting lock nut (3).3. Turn adjusting nut (4) until the correct belt tension is reached. Tighten adjusting lock nut (3) to 150 20 N m (110 15 lb ft).4. Tighten bolts (1) and (2).5. Close and latch the engine hood.Final Drives
Check the Oil Level
1. Position one final drive with oil drain plug (1) at the bottom.2. Remove oil level plug (2).3. Oil should be to the bottom of the oil level plug opening. Refer to the General Hazard Information section for information on Containing Fluid Spillage.4. Add oil through the opening of the oil level plug, if necessary. Overfilling the final drive will cause the travel motor seals to allow hydraulic oil or water to enter and contaminate the drive.5. Clean oil level plug (2). Inspect the O-ring seal. Replace it if it is worn or damaged.6. Install the oil level plug.7. Repeat procedure on the other final drive.Swing Drive
Check the Oil Level
There are two swing drives. One is located in front of the swivel in the center of the swing frame and one is located behind the swivel. Perform the same check procedure for both swing drives. 1. Remove the oil fill plug/dipstick. Refer to the General Hazard Information section for information on Containing Fluid Spillage.2. Maintain the oil level in the "FULL" range on the dipstick.3. Clean and install the fill plug/dipstick.Swing Bearing
Lubricate
The automatic lubrication system automatically lubricates the attachment linkage pins and the swing bearing at an optimum interval without adding the grease to the lubrication fittings. This provides the operator with the best serviceability while assuring maximum efficiency.
Wipe all of the fittings before applying lubricant. The fittings are located under the boom base. Apply lubricant through the three fittings around the swing bearing. Stop applying lubricant when the old lubricant is forced out from the seal surface.Air Conditioner (If Equipped)
