HARNESS AS-CHASSIS 3778103 - Caterpillar

1. Disconnect throttle cable (1).2. Remove tube assembly (2). Disconnect three tube assemblies (4).3. Disconnect three electrical wires (5).4. Remove cover (3). 5. Remove clip (6). Use Tool (A) to slide sleeve (7) away from the governer toward the cylinder head.6. Install Tool (B) into link pin (8) of the governor output shaft. When properly installed, equal lengths of the small diameter on Tool (A) will extend from both ends of link pin (8). Install Tool (C) onto the small diameter end of Tool (B) to help align link pin (8). 7. Remove three bolts (9) that hold the governor and fuel transfer pump in position. Remove the governor and fuel transfer pump with the O-ring seal. Care must be taken not to damage the fuel control linkage. The weight of the governor and fuel transfer pump is 4.2 kg (10 lb). For disassembly & assembly of the governor refer to 3114 & 3116 Engine Governors, Form No. SENR6454. Install the governor and fuel transfer pump in reverse order of removal. After installation, check the Fuel Setting Adjustment. Refer to Systems Operation Testing And Adjusting, Form No. SENR3583.Disassemble & Assemble Fuel Transfer Pump
Do not remove the governor from the engine to disassemble & assemble the fuel transfer pump. The governor was removed for photo purposes. 1. Install governor on governor repair stand (A).
There is spring force behind cover (1). Hold cover (1) in position, and slowly remove bolts (2), to release the spring force.
2. Remove three bolts (2) and cover (1). 3. Remove fitting (3) and the check valve from cover (1). Inspect parts for wear. 4. Remove spring (4), piston (5) and inspect for wear. Replace the spring and the complete piston assembly if necessary.5. Remove upper O-ring (6). 6. Remove sleeve assembly (7). Inspect tappet face (8) for wear. Replace complete assembly if necessary. Inspect cam surface, if damaged, replace the front housing assembly.7. Remove lower O-ring seal (9). 8. Remove fitting (10) and the check valve. Inspect for wear. The following steps are for the assembly of the fuel transfer pump.9. Lightly lubricate fitting (10) and the check valve bore with engine oil. Install the check valve with the sealing face down. With the O-ring in place, install fitting (10).10. Lubricate the sleeve bore. Install lower O-ring seal (9). Apply 8T2998 Camshaft Lubricant to tappet face (8). Slide sleeve assembly (7) into place, aligning the flat on the sleeve with the flat on the housing bore. Install upper O-ring (6).11. Lightly lubricate piston assembly (5) with engine oil. Install piston assembly (5) and spring (4).12. Lightly lubricate fitting (3) and the check valve bore with engine oil. Install the check valve with the sealing face toward the fitting. With the O-ring in place, install fitting (3).13. Position cover (1) compressing spring (4), and install bolts (2).14. Remove governor from Tool (A).
