Lubricate the sealing lips on seals (11) with 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease. Position seals (11), and press the seals into bearing caps (10) and (14).
Apply Loctite C5A Cooper Anti-Seize on the bearing bores in the frame.
Cool bearing cups (12) to a temperature of −54° 10°C/-0°C (−65° 18°F) for a minimum of 1 hour but not to exceed 24 hours. Note: Cooler temperatures or longer soak times may result in dimensional growth.
Position lower bearing cap (14), and retain lower bearing cap (14) with fixture device.
Install lower bearing cup (12) into the bore of the housing. Drive the bearing cup downward in order to ensure contact with lower bearing cap (14).
Lubricate bearing cones (13) with oil and install.
Install cooled bearing cup (12). Drive the bearing cup downward in order to ensure light contact pressure on the bearing cones.
Install a 1.55 mm (0.06 inch)of shim pack (18), upper bearing cap (10), and three bolts (8) with washers (9). Install the bolts so that the bolts are 120 degrees apart and tighten bolts.
Install torquing bolt assembly and read torque necessary to rotate cones. Add or remove shims (18) as required to obtain a rolling torque of not less than 10 N m (89 lb in) or greater than 34 N m (300 lb in).
Install all cap bolts (8) and washers (9) and tighten to torque of 100 20 N m (74 15 lb ft). Procedure to Install the Upper Hitch Pin

Install spacer (16) into lower bearing cap.
Use two lifting eyebolts in order to connect retainer plate (5) to pin (7). Use two bolts (3) and washers (4) to align plate (5) outer hole pattern to matching hole pattern on upper boss frame. Cool upper hitch pin (7) to −62° 10°C (−80° 18°F). Align the bores in the upper hitch. Then insert the pin into the bores. Permit hitch pin to warm to ambient temperature (around 45 minutes).
Use three equally spaced bolts (3) and washers (4) and attach lower retainer plate (17) to hitch pin (7). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 40 N m (199 30 lb ft).
Measure the gap between the upper pin retainer plate (5) and upper boss surface thru two small holes.
