At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
1. Release the pressure in the cooling system. Drain the coolant from the radiator. The capacity of the cooling system is 44 liters (11.4 U.S. gal). 2. Remove two bolts (2) that fasten tube (3) to the front bonnet. Remove the four bolts that fasten tube (4) to the aftercooler. Remove tubes (3) and (4) from the engine.3. Loosen hose clamp (6), and disconnect hose (7) from the front bonnet.4. Remove bolt (5) that fastens the two hose clips to the bracket.5. Remove bolt (14) that fastens the two hose clips to the bracket.6. Disconnect hose assembly (9) from front bonnet (10).7. Remove drain plug (15), and drain the oil from transmission oil cooler (8). Reinstall the drain plug.8. Remove the eight bolts and the washers that hold tube assemblies (11) and (13) to the bottom of the transmission oil cooler.9. Remove five bolts (1) that hold front bonnet (10) to the cylinder block and engine oil cooler.10. Support the transmission oil cooler. Remove the four nuts and bolts, remove clamp (12).11. Using two persons, remove transmission oil cooler (8). The weight of the transmission oil cooler is 25 kg (55 lb).12. Remove the front and rear bonnets from the transmission oil cooler core.13. Using a 4.0 mm (.156 in) diameter rod, clean the tube bundles in the transmission oil cooler. The following steps are for the installation of the transmission oil cooler.14. Check the condition of the gaskets used between the transmission oil cooler and the front and rear bonnets. Check the condition of the gasket used between tube (3) and the front bonnet. Also, check the condition of the O-ring seals used in the ends of tube assemblies (11) and (13). Check the condition of the O-ring seal used in the end of tube (4). If any of the parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.15. Install new gaskets and the front and rear bonnets on the transmission oil cooler core.16. Put transmission oil cooler (8) in position on the support bracket. Install five bolts (1) that hold the front bonnet to the cylinder block and the engine oil cooler.17. Position clamp (12), and
