Assembly Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Clean aftercooler (9). Refer to Operations and Maintenance Manual, "Overhaul Considerations" for information on cleaning the aftercooler core assembly.

Apply a thin bead of 4C-9612 Silicone Sealant to flange (12) of inner housing (1) .
Put inlet line (4) of aftercooler (9) into position in the inner housing (1). Seal flange (11) of the aftercooler onto flange (12) of the inner housing. Center inlet line (4) in the hole in inner housing (1). This will ensure that there is no strain on the inlet line and that O-ring seal (2) will seal properly when flange (3) is tightened.
Apply a thin bead of 4C-9612 Silicone Sealant to flange (11) of aftercooler (9) .
Slide air intake housing (5) over outlet line (10) of the aftercooler. Seal the flange of air intake housing (5) onto flange (11) of the aftercooler. Center outlet line (10) in the hole in air intake housing (5). This will ensure that there is no strain on the outlet line and that O-ring seal (8) will seal properly when flange (7) is tightened.
Install sixteen bolts (14) and install two bolts (6) onto air intake housing (5). Tighten bolts (14) and bolts (6) to a torque of 16 N m (12 lb ft). Tighten the bolts in a sequence that starts at the center of the housing. Then, work toward the ends of the housing.
Install flange (3) onto inlet line (4). Install the bolts and tighten to a torque of 7 N m (62 lb in). Install a new O-ring seal (2) .
Install flange (7) onto outlet line (10). Install the bolts and tighten to a torque of 7 N m (62 lb in). Install a new O-ring seal (8) .
