Note: Lubricate all seals with SAE 30 oil.
Install seal (8) and seal assembly (9). Seal assembly (9) consists of an L-shaped seal and a backup ring. Place the L-shaped seal so that the flat side is toward the differential. Position the backup ring away from the differential.

Install piston (7) in the intermediate housing assembly.

Note: Using a friction disc with less than 7.65 mm (0.300 inch) of friction material will result in accelerated wear. Do not use the color of the friction disc as an indication of wear. The overall thickness and disc groove depth are better indications of wear.
Inspect friction disc (6) for wear. Replace the friction disc if the thickness of the friction material is less than 7.65 mm (0.300 inch). Immerse the friction disc in clean SAE 30 oil. Install friction disc (6), sun gear (5) and three springs (4) .

Install reaction plate (1) .Note: The axle housing assemblies that are used in the front fixed axle and in the rear oscillating axle are similar. Therefore, both axle housing assemblies can be installed in the same manner.

Typical Example
Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to the rim of the axle shaft, as shown. Carefully install the axle housing assembly. The weight of axle housing assembly (2) is 295 kg (650 lb). Install bolts (1) that hold axle housing assembly (2) to the differential housing.
Repeat Steps 1 through 5 for the remaining service brake.End By:
Install the fixed axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fixed Axle (Front) - Remove and Install".
Install the oscillating axle. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Oscillating Axle (Rear) - Remove and Install".
