The tamper system assists with the initial compaction of the asphalt mat during the paving operation. The machine must be in the PAVE mode and operating in the forward direction for the tamper to operate. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, UENR0804 for additional information. The tamper hydraulic system is equipped with a variable displacement pump that provides flow to four tamper motors. The tamper pump is controlled by a proportional solenoid. This solenoid is controlled by the machine electronic control system. A programmable time delay allows the machine to begin moving before the tamper starts.Note: The machine electronic control system is programmed with implement lockout logic. This logic prevents the tamper system from operating while the propel mode switch is in the TRAVEL position. The propel mode switch must be in the PAVE position in order for the tamper system to operate.
