Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
The water separator is not a filter. The water separator separates the water from the fuel. The engine should never be run when the water separator is more than half full of water. Engine damage may result.

Open vent (1). Allow any trapped air to escape. When fuel free from air flows from the vent, close the vent.
Open the other vent (2) and repeat the process.
Open the drain valve (4). Drain the water into a suitable container. When fuel free from water flows, close the drain valve, and dispose of the water properly.Note: Only clean the nylon gauze filter (3) at the correct maintenance interval. Clean the nylon gauze filter, if the fuel supply is known to have been contaminated.
Close the fuel shutoff valve. Open the drain (4). Drain the fuel into a suitable container. Unscrew the transparent body (5) of the water separator and remove the nylon gauze filter (3) .
Remove any sediment and wash the nylon gauze filter in clean fuel.
Replace the nylon gauze filter in the body of the water separator. Replace the transparent body and open the fuel shutoff valve.
Open the air vents (1 and 2) until fuel free from air flows from the vents. Close the vents.
The water separator is under suction during normal engine operation. Ensure that the drain valve is tightened securely to help prevent air from entering the fuel system.
