All G3600ReferenceRefer to Engine News, SEBD9973, "A New Torque Procedure for Connecting Rod Bolts Is Now Used on 3600, G3600, and C280 Engines". ReferenceRefer to Training Video, TERV788801, "C280 / 3600 Rod Bearing Installation". Description of Change: The 369-7181 Connecting Rod Bolt has been discontinued and replaced with the new 467-0537 Connecting Rod Bolt .Extensive study of the connecting rod torque process has shown a large impact from different torque tools and reaction arms on bolt stress. Understanding of tools and processes has evolved that the Intellifast check is secondary and no longer needed to ensure adequate bolt load.Caterpillar adjusted the field torque level and recommended use of a hydraulic wrench reacting off the rod weight boss. An impact wrench may also be used while performing the final turn portion of the rod bolt torque process. The procedure reduces or eliminates the bending stresses induced in the bolt while tightening. These stresses add to the overall fatigue risk of the bolt and are not measured by the Intellifast reader. By following the updated torque procedure in Engine News, SEBD9973, the required clamp load will be reached and additional stresses in the bolt avoided. All 3600, G3600, and C280 built after May 2015 will use the new 467-0537 Bolt.
