The snap rings that are located at the end of each section must be inspected. Two types of snap ring have been used. The first type has holes in order to allow the use of snap ring pliers. The second type does not have these holes.

A snap ring that shows one of the holesSnap rings that have the holes can fail due to fatigue in the area of the holes. Do not use this type of snap ring. Use snap rings that do not have holes. New snap rings should be installed whenever an ejector cylinder is rebuilt.Inspection of the End Faces on the Tubes that Make Up the Three Stages of the Ejector Cylinder
The end faces of each of the tubes that make up the stages of the ejector cylinder must be inspected for cracks. When possible, this inspection should be done before the ejector cylinder has been disassembled.If the ejector cylinder has not been disassembled look for evidence of the following:
Evidence of extrusion of the seal is occurring. If extrusion of the seal has occurred, the end face may have suffered permanent deformation. In this case, a new tube is needed.
Evidence of cracking in the end face. If cracks are found, then a new tube is needed. Indentations as a result of impact damage can be rectified by sanding and grinding.Details of 217-5385 Seal Kit
217-5385 Seal Kit is used to repair the 217-5382 Ejector Cylinder and the 177-2004 Ejector Cylinders that have been salvaged in accordance with this Special Instruction.Table 4 lists the contents of the 217-5385 Seal Kit consisting of nonmetallic seals.
