Connections of the engine speed sensor circuitThis diagnostic code is associated with the Engine ECM and the Power Train ECM. The FMI 08 means that the Power Train ECM has determined that the signal frequency or the signal pulse width for the engine speed sensor is not within the expected range. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The sensor has failed.
The spacing of the sensor is incorrect.
Intermittent connections or poor connections
Mechanical devices are loose.
Incorrect software is loaded to the ECM.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.If MID 036 CID 0190 FMI xx or MID 036 CID 0091 FMI xx are present, perform the related diagnostics for these codes before performing this diagnostic code. MID 081 CID 0190 FMI 008 may go away after these codes are cleared.Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all of the connections in the circuit are clean and secure. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0190 FMI 08 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.Test Step 1. VERIFY THE HARDWARE AND THE SOFTWARE PART NUMBERS.

The part number of the software of the Power Train ECM
The part number of the software of the Engine ECM
The part number of the Power Train ECM
The part number of the Engine ECM Note: Consult your dealership for the correct part numbers of the configuration software. Expected Result:All part numbers are correct. Results:
OK - All part numbers are correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - All part numbers are not correct. The part number of the Power Train ECM may be incorrect. The part number of the Engine ECM may be incorrect. The incorrect configuration software may also be installed.Repair: Replace the ECM with the incorrect part number with an ECM that has the correct part number. Flash the correct configuration software. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program" for more information.STOPTest Step 2. INSPECT THE HARNESS CONNECTIONS.
Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Inspect all harness connections that are related to the circuit. Make sure that the connectors are clean and tight.
Check the connectors for proper mating.
Check the wires at the connector.
Check each wire for nicks or signs of abrasion in the insulation.
Check for moisture at the connector.
Check the connectors for dirty contacts or corroded contacts.
Check each pin and each socket of the machine harness connectors.Expected Result:The machine harness connectors are tight and free of corrosion.Results:
OK - The machine harness connectors are tight and free of corrosion. Proceed to Test
