Backup Switch
Perform the following procedure if a decrease in performance occurs with no indication of one of the following conditions:
High hydraulic oil temperature
Low hydraulic oil temperature
High engine coolant temperatureAlso perform the following procedure if the machine functions do not respond according to the positions of the controls, switches, or buttons.Note: Make sure that you understand the functions of the controls, switches, or buttons before you use the backup procedure.

The cover is lifted, and the toggle switch is in the OFF position. While the engine is running, lift the cover that is on the compartment on the right console. Lift up on the toggle switch and move the switch forward. This activates the backup system. The performance of the hydraulic system should decrease to economy mode.Machine Functions
The following functions are fixed when the machine is in backup mode. The functions cannot be altered by changing the switch positions.
The monitor will shut off the indicators for temperature, fuel, and other items. The word "BACKUP" will be displayed on the screen.
The travel alarm will sound for 10 seconds when the machine begins to move. The alarm will shut off automatically after 10 seconds.
The work tool lockout will not be active.
The parking brake will be released.
The oscillating axle will not be locked unless the service brake pedal is fully depressed and locked, or if the left console is in the raised position.
The first gear is engaged.
The travel lock cannot be enabled.
Travel is always enabled. (This is true whether the service brake pedal is fully depressed and locked, or whether the left console is in the raised position.)
The electric refueling pump is disabled.
The engine can always be started. (This is true regardless of the position of the left console.)
Creeper speed is disabled.
The hydraulic system is set to Economy Mode.
The Automatic Engine Control is disabled.
The cooling fan will operate at maximum speed.Manual Backup
If the performance of the machine does not change, refer to Steps 1 through 4.
Stop the engine. Raise the left console.

A typical example is shown in the figure above. (1) Access door (2) Access cover
Bodily injury can occur from unexpected contact with open cab doors on machines equipped with a fixed cab riser. To avoid injury, close the cab door before climbing onto the rear of the machine.
Open access door (1). Secure access door (1) .

At the pilot manifold, remove two cotter pins (3) from levers (A) and (B) .
Move levers (A) and (B) to position (5) .Note: When levers (A) and (B) are in position (5) the machine will operate in backup mode.

Note: If the previous two backup functions do not work then perform the following procedure. Get access to the pilot manifold through the access door (1). Five solenoids that are mounted on the pilot manifold control the following five machine functions or components:
The oscillating axle
The swing brake
The lockout for travel
The lockout for the work tool
The parking brakeThe manual backup screws on the solenoids
