Input Transfer Gear Lubrication
Illustration 1 g02530340
Cross Section of the Input Transfer Gear (1) Passage (2) Bearings (3) Passage (4) Port (5) Passage (6) PassageOil enters port (4) and flows through passages (5) and (6) in order to lubricate the planetary gears and the bearings which are in the carrier. Oil also flows through passage (3) in order to lubricate bearings (2). The oil from the transmission input shaft flows through passage (1) in order to lubricate the spline on the carrier and the yoke.Output Transfer Gear Lubrication
Illustration 2 g02530342
(1) Inlet (Passage for the Lubrication of the Transmission) (2) Blocks (3) Blocks (4) Inlet from an External Hose (5) Inlet (Drain Oil from the Torque Converter) (6) Block (7) Inlet (Drain from the Case of the Transmission)The output transfer gears get lubrication in two ways. Lubrication oil from the input transfer gear lubricates the upper output transfer gear. Oil which is used for lubrication flows through a passage in the housing. Next, the oil enters the transfer gear case through inlet (1). Then, oil flows through passages in order to lubricate the bearings.Blocks (3) have tubes that spray oil on the bearings for lubrication and for cooling. Block (6) sends oil through a passage to the bearing cage for the bearings on the output shaft. An external hose from the inlet of the lubrication oil for the transmission goes to inlet (4) in the side of the output transfer gearbox. From inlet (4), oil flows through tubes to blocks (2). Blocks (2) have tubes that spray oil on the gears for lubrication and cooling.Since the transfer gear case is the reservoir for the transmission and the torque converter system, all of the return oil flows to the bottom of the case. Return lubrication oil from the transmission flows through a tube to the output transfer gear case through inlet (7). Return oil from the torque converter flows through a hose from the rear of the torque converter housing to inlet (5) which is in the side of the output transfer gearbox.
