(6) Outlet bonnet Unfiltered oil leaves the engine block through tube (2A). This oil flows through engine oil filter (1) and out through tube (2B).When the engine oil is cold, the viscosity of the oil is enough to cause the oil to go through cooler bypass tube (5). As a result, the engine oil will bypass engine oil cooler (4) until the oil warms and the oil becomes thinner.When the oil is warm, most of the engine oil will flow through engine oil cooler (4).Coolant Flow

The demand fan pulls cool air through the cores in radiator (2). This action lowers the temperature of the engine coolant. Engine coolant flows from water pump (7) to engine oil cooler. As a result, the engine oil that is flowing through engine oil cooler (4) is cooled.
