Connections of the Transmission Synchronizer # 2 Solenoid # 2This diagnostic code is associated with the transmission synchronizer #2 solenoid #2. The FMI 03 means that the Transmission ECM has determined that the voltage of the solenoid circuit is above normal. The possible causes of the diagnostic code are:
The solenoid has failed.
The energize circuit is shorted to +Battery.
The Transmission ECM may have failed, but is unlikely.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2835 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use the 146-4080 Digital Multimeter for the measurements in this procedure.System Response:When this diagnostic code is active, the ECM will turn off the current to the failed solenoid.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Disconnect the machine harness from the Synchro High Fwd ON/OFF Solenoid.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from connector contact 1 (wire X958-GY) to connector contact 2 (wire H807-YL).
Observe the status of the CID 2835 FMI 03.Expected Result:The diagnostic code is no longer active.Results:
OK - The diagnostic code is no longer active. The solenoid has failed.Repair: Replace the solenoid.STOP
NOT OK - The diagnostic code remains active. The solenoid is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO +BATTERY
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Remove the jumper wire fitted in the previous Test Step.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from connector contact J1-12 (wire X958-GY) to all possible sources of +Battery.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - One or more measurements are less than 5 ohms. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between J1-12 (wire X958-GY) and the circuit that has the low resistance measurement.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO +BATTERY
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
The ECM and the solenoid remain disconnected from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from connector contact J1-12 (wire X958-GY) to all possible sources of +Battery.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
YES - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NO - One or more measurements are less than 5 ohms. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between J1-12 (wire X958-GY) and the circuit that has the low resistance measurement.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine
