is most important that correct assembly and installation procedures are followed when Duo-Cone seals are used. Many of the Duo-Cone Seal failures are the direct result of one or more mistakes made during assembly or installation of the seal components.
When the Duo-Cone Seals are assembled, all the parts must be clean (no dust, lint or grease). Oil or grease on the toric ring can result in oil leakage between the metal seals when installed on the machine. This can result in a shorter service life of the Duo-Cone Seal. Components of the Duo-Cone Seals can be cleaned with tri-chloroethane. Tri-chloroethane is a solution that dries rapidly and will not leave an oil film on the surface. Do not use any liquid that will leave an oil film, or does not evaporate quickly.
When Duo-Cone Seals are installed, make sure the correct tool is used. A seal that is not installed correctly can also result in oil leakage. See the Tool Guide for the correct tool that must be used with each Duo-Cone Seal. Tri-chloroethane can be used on the toric ring as a lubricant to help make sure the Duo-Cone Seals are installed correctly.
After the seal is installed, check the height (projection) at four places, 90° apart. There must not be more than 1 mm (.04") difference between the measurements.
