Straight Dozing
Illustration 1 g00343192
Straight Dozing - Maintain a level cut for best performance. Fill the blade. Then, carry the load or slide the load to the dump area.
Avoid lugging or stalling the machine.
Avoid excessive track slippage.
When turning under a load is necessary, use the tilt cylinders for the bulldozer blade to steer in place of the steering lever.Slot Dozing
Illustration 2 g00343193
Slot Dozing - Trapping material in a slot allows larger loads to be carried in front of the blade.
The depth of the slot should be no deeper than the height of the blade. The height of the blade is measured at the top corner of the blade.
Illustration 3 g00343194
Start the slot at the dump or spoil end and work rearward. See Figure (A). You can load the blade as you are moving downhill. Also, you can then carry the load on a level surface. Working from the rear of the slot to the dump is not as efficient as the technique shown in Figure (A). See Figure (B). In figure (B), the machine is pushing a load uphill. The operator does not utilize the slot. Dozing level through the entire pit is inefficient. The average distance for pushing the material to the dump will be greater.
Illustration 4 g00343195
When you dig parallel slots, remove the center berm from the rear. This procedure allows the operator to maintain a slot in order to retain material until the center berm is completely removed. The center berm should only be wide enough to stand up without collapsing. The maximum width of the berm should be approximately 1/3 of the width of the blade.Tractor on a Slope
Illustration 5 g00343238
Work uphill and work downhill, when possible. Avoid working sideways on a hill.
Use caution to avoid conditions which could lead to tipovers. Be careful when you work on hills, banks, or on slopes.
If the machine begins to sideslip on a slope, lighten the load and turn the machine downhill.
Start at the top of the slope when you work sideways on a hill, when possible. Work downhill. Maintain a windrow of material on the low side of the machine in order to provide stability.
Use caution not to undercut the slope. Undercutting the slope will make the slope steeper.V- Ditching
Illustration 6 g00343292
V-Ditching - Tilt the blade in order to start the desired slope. Be cautious of underfoot conditions. Position the corner of the blade in the center of the ditch. Cut to the desired depth.Angle Bulldozing Backfilling
Illustration 7 g00343293
Angle Bulldozing Backfilling - Travel parallel to the ditch. Angle the blade in order to backfill the material.Straight Bulldozing Backfilling
Illustration 8 g00343294
Straight Bulldozer Backfilling - Push the material at a 90 degree angle to the ditch.
