HEAD A-CYL 1W5282 - Caterpillar

1. Remove the pressure from hydraulic system and from brake system before disconnecting any lines. Put blocks under the front and rear of front tires. 2. Remove the oil from hydraulic tank. Put identification marks on hydraulic lines (1). Disconnect lines (1) from rear section of the machine. Disconnect the two air lines from block (3). Install two plugs in the block. 3. Remove bolts (5) and washers from each of the steering cylinders. Remove pins (2).4. Remove the drive shaft (4). 5. Remove the floor plate in front of seat. Make a separation in wiring (6).6. Remove the bolts that hold anchor assembly (9) for steering linkage to front main frame. Move steering linkage free of front main frame. 7. Remove the four bolts (7) that hold upper pivot pin (8) to rear frame.8. Put tool setup (A) in position under rear of front main frame. Use tool setup (A) and a hydraulic pump to put the frames in position so there will be a minimum force against the upper pivot pin (8).9. Use a hydraulic jack to push pin (8) out of the frames. 10. Remove the bolts (10) and (12) that hold the plate (11) to front frame and to lower pivot pin.11. Put a lift truck in position at rear of the machine.12. Put a floor jack (15) in position under the front of rear frame. 13. Use tool setup (A) to put frames into position so there will be a minimum force against the lower pivot pin (14). 14. Use a hydraulic jack (16) to push the lower pivot pin (14) out of frames.15. Remove the spacer (13).16. Connect an air line to the air tank. Air pressure should be a minimum of 40 PSI (2,8 kg/cm2) and a maximum of 120 PSI (8,4 kg/cm2).17. Use the lift truck and floor jack to move the rear main frame free of the front main frame. 18. Put tool setup (B) in position under rear of rear frame, and tool setup (C) in position under front of rear main frame. Remove the lift truck and floor jack.Connection Of Main Frames
1. Put the lift truck and the floor jack into position under the front and rear of rear main frame. Remove tool setups (B) and (C).2. Put the rear main frame into position on the front main frame.3. Install the lower pivot pin and the upper pivot pin. Use tool setup (A) as necessary to put the main frames into alignment for installation of the pivot pins. 4. Install the four bolts (1) that hold upper pivot pin in position. Tighten two of the bolts opposite each other the same amount. Tighten the other two bolts the same amount. Do this until all four bolts have a torque of 75 10 lb.ft. (10,4 1,4 mkg).5. Put the steering linkage (2) in position on front frame, and install the bolts. 6. Connect wiring (3). 7. Install the floor plate (4). 8. Install the spacer (5)
