Do not let any dirt or foreign material get into the hydraulic system during assembly, connection of lines, when components are filled with fluid or during any maintenance operation. Clean all paint, dirt, or rust from all ripper mounting surfaces.
When a hoist is used to lift any part or assembly, stand clear of the area. Be sure the hoist has the correct capacity to lift a heavy assembly.
The machine must be equipped with a 163 Hydraulic Control Arrangement. See Form SMHS6817 for installation instructions.Installation Of Ripper Mounting Plate
1 Remove serial number plate (1). Remove drawbar (2) and cover (3). Remove all the corks and studs from the rear of the bevel gear case. 2 Remove the paint from the bevel gear case. Install 3K9843 Studs (4) tightened to 170 20 lb.ft. (230 25) torque. Install eight 5D3118 Studs (5) tightened to 110 15 lb.ft. (150 20). Install eight 4K1079 Studs (6) tightened to 70 10 (95 14) torque. 3 Remove six corks from the bottom of the bevel gear case at location (B). Install drawbar plate (7) with six 1D4609 Bolts (8); do not tighten bolts (8) at this time. 4 Install a 3K1516 Seal in the groove in the front of plate assembly (9). Use 1P808 Lubricant to hold the seal in the groove. Install plate (9) on the studs. Tighten eight 6B6682 Nuts (10) and 5H1504 Washers to 270 30 lb.ft. (365 40); eight 2J3507 Nuts (11) and 7M9650 Washers to 850 85 lb.ft. (1150 115) torque and 3K9843 Nuts (12) with 4K684 Washers to 1250 120 lb. ft. (1690 160) torque. Measure gap (A) between drawbar plate (7) and ripper mounting plate (9); install 4K3927 Shims between plates (7) and (9) of a thickness .060" .015" (1.5 .4) less than gap (A). Install 9S1363 Bolts (13) with 7M9650 Washers tightened to 850 85 lb. ft. (1150 115) torque. Tighten bolts (8) to 400 40 lb. ft. (540 55) torque.Ripper And Carriage Installation Montage
1 Install link assembly (1) with two pins (2) and cotter pins. Install hydraulic cylinder (3) with pin (4), bar (5) and two S1621 Bolts and 3B4508 Lockwashers. 2 Put carriage assembly (6) on link (1) and install pins (7) and cotter pins. Lift carriage (6) and install link (8) with two pins (9) and cotter pins. Put carriage (6) on wood blocks approximately 8.0" (203.0) high. Ripper teeth (10) are shown in the position for shipment.) 3 Install 4K4487 Plate (11) and 4K4488 Plate (12) with two 1D4643 Bolts, four 7M9650 Washers and two 2J3507 Nuts. Install link (13) with two pins (14) and cotter pins. Tighten the nuts to 850 85 lb. ft. (1150 115) torque. Install 8J7051 Hose Assembly (15) between tube (16) and the head end of hydraulic cylinder (17) and 8J7051 Hose Assembly (18) between tube (19) and the rod end of cylinder (17). Install
