3516 ( 25Z, 4XF ) Standby Generator Set EnginesDescription of Change: Formerly, the above standby generator set engines were equipped with light duty air cleaners. These air cleaners are designed for relatively clean environments and in applications which accumulate a low number of operating hours per year. These air cleaner elements are to be replaced after 50 hours of operation. Experience indicates that many standby generator sets do not operate in this kind of environment. The result can be rapid plugging of the air cleaner elements which leads to loss of engine performance and potential distress to engine components. For those applications where the engine will be exposed to dust (including building construction dust), moisture, and/or where the engine will be operated over 50 hours per year, the light duty air cleaners have been replaced by the standard duty air cleaners. These are the air cleaners normally used on prime power generator sets.
The light duty air cleaner groups are still available as an attachment for those applications where clean environment and low usage make it a good economical choice. Where possible, the next larger size light duty element is used to provide an additional margin of air cleaner capacity.
Adaptable To: Chart A lists the current and former light duty air cleaner groups and the direct attachment usage standard duty air cleaner groups. Chart B lists the effectivity of the air cleaner changes. Chart C and Illustrations 1 and 2 identify the components of the air cleaner mounting groups. The 4P0558 Standard Duty Air Cleaner Group uses the 4P0710 Element Assembly.
