Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Park the machine on a level surface with the transmission control in the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

The transmission tank is on the right side of the machine.
Remove filler cap (1) to prevent a vacuum in the transmission tank. Clean the filler cap and install the filler cap after the transmission tank is drained. This will prevent dirt from entering the system.
Remove the retaining ring on the strainer. Remove the strainer.
Wash the cap and the strainer in clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow the cap and the filler strainer to dry.
Inspect the cap seal. Use a new seal if the used seal is damaged. Install the strainer and the retaining ring.
Remove tank drain valve plug (3). Install a 88.0 mm (3.50 inch) long NPT pipe nipple to open the internal drain valve. The outer diameter of the NPT pipe nipple should be 25 mm (1 inch). Drain the oil into a suitable container.Note: Hand tighten the NPT pipe nipple. Do not use tools.
Remove the pipe nipple and install the drain plug.

Remove two drain plugs (4) from the transmission housing and drain the oil into a suitable container. Clean the drain plugs and install the drain plugs.
Remove the filler cap and fill the transmission tank. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)". Install filler cap.

Use engine shutdown switch (5) to prevent the engine from starting. Crank the engine for approximately 15 seconds. The oil level will decrease as oil fills the system.The engine shutdown switch is on the front bumper.
Add oil to the transmission tank to raise the oil level into the green range of lower sight gauge (2). Refer to illustration 1.
If necessary, repeat Step 10 and Step 11 until the oil level stabilizes in the green range of the lower sight gauge.
Lower the guard on the engine shutdown switch. Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Check for leaks and make necessary repairs.
Failure to properly fill the transmission tank after an oil change may cause damage to the transmission clutches. Follow the procedure that is described above.The transmission direction and speed control MUST be left in NEUTRAL until the system is full.
