Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the brake oil cooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Brake Oil Cooler - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent dirt or debris from entering the system. Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: For easier assembly, mark all hose assemblies, tube assemblies, wire harnesses and cables for identification purposes.

Remove four bolts (1) that secure bonnet (2) to engine oil cooler (3). Separate bonnet (2) and the gasket from engine oil cooler (3). Remove tube (4) and bonnet (2) from engine oil cooler (3) .

Disconnect hose (5) from bypass valve (6). Remove three bolts (7) that secure bypass valve (6) to the engine. Remove bypass valve (6) and the gasket from tube (8) and the engine.

Remove four bolts (9) that secure tube (10) to engine oil cooler (3). Disconnect tube (10) from engine oil cooler (3) .

Attach a suitable lifting sling around engine oil cooler (3). Attach a suitable hoist to the lifting sling.

Remove four bolts (11) and the washers that secure tube (12) to the manifold.
Remove two bolts (13) that secure engine oil cooler (3) to the mounting bracket.

Remove two bolts (14) that secure bonnet (15) to the engine. Remove engine oil cooler (3) from the engine. The weight of the engine oil cooler is 61 kg (135 lb).

Remove bonnet (15) and gasket (19) from engine oil cooler (3). Remove O-ring seal (20) and plug (21) from bonnet (15).
Remove bonnet (18), gasket (22), tube (23), two O-ring seals (24), and flange (25) from engine oil cooler (3) .
Remove O-ring seal (26) and plug (27) from engine oil cooler (3) .
