HEAD AS 6E4975 - Caterpillar

1. Start the machine. Turn the tractor so it is at a right angle to the scraper. 2. Remove plug (2) and drain the oil from the differential case.3. Remove plugs (1) and (3). Drain the oil from the transmission. 4. Remove nine bolts (5). Remove cover (4) and the clamp from the linkage housing for the transmission hydraulic controls. 5. Remove three bolts (6). Loosen nut (7) and remove the lever assembly from the shaft. Move housing (8) and the cable away from the transmission. 6. Disconnect hose assembly (9) for the differential lock.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE7. Remove three bolts (10) and cover (11). Remove the O-ring seal from the cover. Check the condition of the seal. If the seal has damage, use a new part for replacement.
TYPICAL EXAMPLE8. Remove the spiral ring from the end of the drive shaft. Install bolt (13) in the end of drive shaft (12). Pull the drive shaft out of the transmission until a hoist can be fastened to it. Fasten a hoist to the drive shaft and remove it. The weight of the drive shaft is 60 lb. (27 kg). 9. Disconnect two tube assemblies (14) from the manifold on the side of the transmission. 10. Disconnect wire harness (16) from the manual selector switch.11. Disconnect wire (15) from the head lamp.12. Move the wire harness and wire away from the transmission. 13. Disconnect air hose assembly (17) from the transmission control valve.14. Disconnect hose assembly (18) at the base of the transmission oil filter.15. Move the two hose assemblies away from the transmission. 16. Fasten tool (A) around the implement hydraulic pump and to the top of the hitch. Tool (A) is used as a support to hold the implement hydraulic pump in position when the transfer gears, torque converter and transmission is removed.17. Remove two nuts (19) that hold the pump to the rear of the transfer gear case.18. Pull the drive axles out of the final drive approximately 18 in. (45.7 cm). See REMOVE DRIVE AXLES. 19. Install a 5/8"-11 NC forged eyebolt (20) in the transmission case.20. Fasten tool (B) to the eyebolt and the lifting eye in the transmission case. Fasten a hoist to tool (B).21. Remove nuts (22) that hold the transmission in position. Remove four bolts (21) that hold the differential to the transmission. Do not remove two of the nuts that hold the differential in the differential case. 22. Remove transfer gears, torque converter and the transmission as a unit. Weight of unit (23) is 2775 lb. (1254 kg).Install Transfer Gears, Torque Converter And Transmission
1. Install O-ring seal (1) on the implement hydraulic pump. 2. Install O-ring seals (2) in the differential case. 3. Fasten tool (B) and a hoist to transmission (4). Put the transmission in position on the studs in the differential case.
Do not cause damage to the splined shaft in the implement hydraulic pump (3). The shaft must be put in alignment with the transfer gear case as the transmission is
