The transmission is controlled by an electrical system and a hydraulic system. The selection of speed for any scraper is automatic. There are no manual shifts for the scraper transmission. All shifts are controlled by the tractor and the scraper transmission control system. One FORWARD speed on the scraper is matched to two speeds on the tractor.The flow of power from engine (1) to scraper wheels (8) is listed below:

Power train (Basic Diagram)The scraper power train is made up of three basic systems.
Transmission electronic control module (ECM)
Torque converter, transmission gears and transfer gears
Differential and final driveThe three basic systems are electrically connected, hydraulically connected, and mechanically connected to each other. A basic diagram shows the components that are common to each system.The operation of the power train must begin at the tractor transmission control and the transmission electronic control module (ECM). The tractor transmission control receives information of the selected speed from the electrical system. The tractor transmission control electrical system activates the tractor hydraulic system (transmission and torque converter) through solenoids (upshift and downshift). Once the tractor transmission has shifted, the tractor transmission control receives information of the completed shift from the electrical system.Once the tractor has completed the shift and the tractor transmission control has received the signal, the tractor will send a signal to the electronic control module (ECM) for the scraper transmission. The electronic control module (ECM) for the scraper controls all of the shifts for the scraper transmission. The transmission electronic control module (ECM) activates either the upshift solenoid or the downshift solenoid. If the scraper transmission is in the correct speed with the tractor transmission, the transmission electronic control module (ECM) will electrically activate the synchronizing solenoid.The scraper solenoids (upshift and downshift) hydraulically activate the shift cylinder, which mechanically moves the speed selection spools. The position of the speed spools allows hydraulic oil to engage the correct transmission clutches. The synchronizing solenoid keeps the scraper transmission in the correct relation with the tractor transmission. When the transmissions are not in the correct relation, oil pressure from the synchronizing valve closes the priority valve. This stops hydraulic oil from getting to the clutches, which allows the transmission to shift gears.The torque converter drives the scraper transmission hydraulically unless the lockup clutch is activated.
