Open water supply valve (1) on the left side of the machine.Note: The water is necessary for cooling the cutting bits and for dust control during the initial plunge cut.
Illustration 2 g03428532
Rotate the water spraying system switch (2) to the MANUAL position.
Illustration 3 g03428592
Lower the rear of the machine past "0" on the depth indicator to the amount of the desired cutting depth. For example, if the specified cutting depth is 10.2 cm (4 inch), lower the rear of the machine 10.2 cm (4 inch) past the "0" position on the rear leg scale.Note: For depth control accuracy, it is recommended to keep the machine LEVEL front to back with the surface being milled at all times.

For depth control accuracy, it is recommended to keep the machine LEVEL front to back with the surface being milled at all times.
If one of the controllers is to be operated in slope mode, turn the adjustment knob until the desired slope is shown in the display window. Be sure to verify the correct slope sign (< or >) is indicated in the display window.
Illustration 5 g03428607
Press the red AUTO button on both controllers to lower the front of the machine automatically to the desired cutting depth.
Position the first haul unit under the discharge conveyor.
Illustration 6 g03428615
Set the conveyor mode switch (4) to AUTOMATIC.
Illustration 7 g03428621
Set the automatic engine speed control switch (5) to the AUTOMATIC position.
Illustration 8 g03428631
Verify that both of the grade controller "ON GRADE" indicator bars are flashing green.
Illustration 9 g03428634
Set the load control switch (6) to the AUTOMATIC position.
Set the load control machine speed selector (7) to MED. Adjust the setting according to the material hardness, if required.
Set the load control sensitivity potentiometer (8) to the middle of the range.
Release the parking brake.
Slowly move the machine forward, as the rear tracks enter the cut use the rear leg elevation switch to raise the rear of the machine and keep the machine level while cutting.
Once the machine has fully entered the cut, the rear leg depth reading on the scale should be zero and the machine should be level.
After cutting approximately 6 m (20 ft), check the cutting depth. Make adjustments on the grade controllers as necessary to achieve depth and slope specifications.
Once the cutting depth is within specifications, increase working speed by moving the forward/reverse propel lever forward. Adjust the load control setting so that production is maximized.
Adjust the moldboard down pressure to achieve a clean surface after the cut. It is not recommended to operate with a pressure greater than 10 bar (145 psi).

Check the height of the antislab device. Make sure that the antislab device control switch is in the FLOAT position and the antislab device is in contact with the road surface. This position also allows for the maximum opening for flow of cut material between the rotor chamber and the primary conveyor.Installing the Steering Guides
To assist in following a line on the ground, steering guides are installed on both sides of the machine.
