Location of manual retarder pressure switch
In order to check whether the retarder air control valve is operating correctly, remove the retarder pressure switch and install an 8T-0849 Pressure Gauge ( 0 to 1380 kPa (0 to 200 psi)).Start the engine. Operate the engine until the air pressure reaches cut-out pressure. Move the retarder control lever to the FULLY APPLIED position. Check the air pressure that is shown on the gauge. If the air pressure is greater than 550 35 kPa (80 5 psi), an adjustment is needed. If the air pressure is less than 550 35 kPa (80 5 psi), an adjustment is needed.If the retarder air control valve is not within the specified pressure, adjust the retarder air control valve . The retarder air control valve should show lower pressures at other positions than the FULLY APPLIED position.Adjustment Of Retarder Air Control Valve

(1) Adjusting ring
(2) Lock ring The retarder air control valve is under the dash.
Adjust the retarder air control valve if the air pressure on the gauge is greater than 550 35 kPa (80 5 psi). Adjust the retarder air control valve if the air pressure on the gauge is less than 550 35 kPa (80 5 psi).
Remove the valve.
Remove lock ring (2).
Turn adjusting ring (1) clockwise in order to raise the delivery air pressure. Turn adjusting ring (1) counterclockwise in order to lower the delivery air pressure.
Install the valve.
