Introduction
This Special Instruction provides information required to install and adjust the 9X9524 Solenoid Assembly. The 9X9524 Solenoid Assembly replaces the 9X9898 and 9X3289 Solenoid Assemblies. The 9X9524 Solenoid Assembly is an electrical actuator which is used to control the dual horsepower function of the governor.This instruction assumes that the machine is already equipped with an electric solenoid to control the dual horsepower function. If not so equipped, see SEHS8766 or SEBF0622 for additional information.Do not perform any procedure, outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you read and understand the information contained within.Necessary Parts (All models)
Removal Instructions
1. Remove the variable power solenoid from the year of the governor by removing the two bolt 9W0275 Adapter with the solenoid.2. Using a dial indicator, adjust the high power fuel setting by using the standard fuel setting procedure in the service manual.3. If the solenoid is not being replaced, unlock the solenoid by threading 9W0274 Retaining Ring towards the solenoid and then rotate the solenoid counterclockwise to back the solenoid actuation rod away from the 4W5734 Arm Assembly.If the solenoid is being replaced, remove the old solenoid from the 9W0275 adapter by rotating the solenoid counter clockwise after loosening the 9W0274 Retaining Ring. Rotate the new solenoid onto the adapter several revolutions to retain it for the next step.Installation
7C3122 Solenoid Group-Control. (A) Bolt location is optional.1. Lubricate the 336044 Seal (2) with engine oil and then bolt the Adapter/Solenoid Assembly onto the governor housing using bolts whose threads are coated with a suitable thread sealant, (9S3263 Thread Lock).2. Thread the solenoid clockwise into the 9W0275 Adapter (B) until the dial indicator reading indicates the lower power fuel setting. (The solenoid rod is the rack stop for the lower power setting and is in the extended position-deenergized-when lower power is set by the transmission gear selection).3. Lock the solenoid into position by threading the 9W0274 Lock Ring (3) clockwise until the ring contacts adapter (B) and then tighten the ring.4. Reseal the governor using appropriate wire and seal to lock the lock ring to the 4N8445 Bolt with the crossdrilled hole.
