Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The bonnet is located on the left side of the engine. Remove the left side engine panel (1). Open the engine access door (2) in order to access the bonnet. Drain the engine coolant below the level of the bonnet.

Remove the four bolts and washers (3) and remove cover (4) .

Remove four bolts (5) and tube assembly (6). This will allow tube clamp (6) to be moved slightly in order to access bolts that are located on the bonnet. A small amount of transmission oil may be lost when this joint is loosened. Remove Gasket (12) .

Remove six bolts (7). Remove four bolts (8). Remove bonnet (10). Remove the gasket (11) that is under the bonnet. Remove gasket (9). Do not discard these bolts.

Clean all mating surfaces of the transmission oil cooler core, the engine block and the new bonnet. Install the new 2S-0975 Gasket on top of the core assembly, as shown.

Install three of the bolts into the new 205-9293 Bonnet and install the bonnet. Install the remainder of the bolts into the bonnet and tighten the bolts.

Install the new 4N-0641 Gasket (12). Install the tube assembly (6), and remove the four bolts and washers (5) .

Install the proper heater element, as shown. If your machine is not equipped with a block heater, an 8T-6761 Pipe Plug should be installed in the port for the element.

Install four bolts (3) and cover (4) .
Fill the cooling system with coolant and check the level of the coolant.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Level - Check" for more information.
