Schematic of the Fuel Level SensorThis diagnostic code is associated with the Fuel Level Sensor. This diagnostic code is recorded when the RH Operator ECM reads the signal from the fuel level sensor (wire 414-PK) as being shorted to battery(+). The signal (wire 414-PK) connects to contact J1-36 of the ECM.Note: The RH Operator ECM is located under the RH Operator platform.Possible causes of the diagnostic code include the following:
An open supply circuit to the sensor
The return circuit is open.
The signal circuit is open or the fuel level sensor is disconnected.
The signal circuit is shorted to battery (+).
The fuel level sensor has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.System Response:Loss of fuel level reading on display. Operator station fault lamp is active.Note: Ensure that CID 0096 FMI 03 is active. This procedure can cause new diagnostic codes to be recorded. Ignore these created diagnostic codes. When the procedure is completed, clear the created diagnostic codes.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SUPPLY VOLTAGE AT THE SENSOR
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, check the voltage from +battery (Wire 116-BR) contact to the ground contact (Wire A275-BR). Do NOT disconnect the sensor. Use the 7X-1710 Cable probes to measure the voltage. Expected Result:The measured voltage is battery voltage.Results:
OK - The measured voltage is battery voltage. Proceed to Test Step 2.
