Install blocks or stands before performance of any work under a heavy component.Approximate weights of the components are shown. Clean all surfaces where parts are to be installed.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove the paint from the welding area.

Layout 271-6117 plate (1) 10 mm (0.394 inch)from the edge of the track frame guide guard (A). Make sure that the bottom of 271-6117 Plate (1) is aligned with the bottom of the track frame guide guard (E). Tack weld the plate in area (B) .

Fasten the scraper (2) to the plate (1) with bolts (3). Make sure that the bottom of the scraper (E) is aligned with the bottom of the track frame guide guard.
This step will check for the proper clearance of the scrapers to the Center Tread Idlers, and this step will set the proper clearance of the scrapers to the Center Tread Idlers. The side surface of the Center Tread Idler has an area that is flat. The side surface of the Center Tread Idler also has an area that has raised letters and numbers. If the edge of the scraper is against the raised letters and numbers, set the edge of the scraper 1 mm (0.039 inch) away from the raised letters and numbers. If the edge of the scraper is against the flat surface, set the edge of the scraper 6 mm (0.236 inch) away from the flat surface. This will ensure that the scraper will clear the area on the Center Tread Idler that has raised letters and numbers when the idler is rotated.

After the plate (1) has been tack welded in position and the clearance has been checked, remove the bolts (3) and the scraper (2) from the plate. Fillet weld the plate (1) in area (F) and (G). The
