Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Contamination can enter the system during the winch install procedure.Solution
When a winch is installed on the listed machines that did not originally come winch ready, the power train oil filter must be relocated. This requires a new filter base, filter, and hoses (new or dealer made). Contaminates can enter the system during this procedure. The power train oil flows directly from these relocated components to the transmission clutch modulating control valves and brake control valves. It is very important to maintain clean oil to these components. This contamination can affect the operation of the transmission clutch modulating valves resulting in the following:
Loss of gear
Harsh shifts
Slow shifts
Stuck valves resulting in clutches not releasing
Calibration errorsIf these conditions are ignored, this can result in damage to the transmission clutches resulting in reduced clutch life.Typically, this will occur with in 1000 hrs (first oil service) after installing the winch. One suggestion would be to install a used set of transmission valves, or a test set, after relocating the filter and before installing the winch. Then allow the machine to run about an hour in order to flush the new components. Then replace the valves with the original valves and continue to install the other winch components.
