Information:
Engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may be harmful to your health. Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
For initial start-up of a new or rebuilt engine, and for start-up of an engine that has been serviced, make provision to shut the engine off should an overspeed occur. This may be accomplished by shutting off the air and/or fuel supply to the engine.
Do not start the deck engine or move any of the controls if there is a "DO NOT OPERATE" warning tag or similar warning tag attached to the start switch or controls.Ensure that no one will be endangered before the deck engine is started and when the deck engine is started.
Perform all of the procedures that are described in this Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Before Starting Engine" topic (Operation Section).
Ensure that the shaft brake of the pump is off and that the gear selector is in the NEUTRAL position.
Clear all personnel from the vicinity of the quick disconnect hoses before cranking the deck engine. Failure to follow this warning could result in personal injury or death from whipping hoses and/or high pressure oil.
While the truck engine is at idle speed, move the "DECK START/RUN/KILL" switch into the START position. Hold the switch until the deck engine starts. Note: The truck engine will automatically ramp up to speed when the "DECK START/RUN/KILL" switch is held in the START position. The truck engine will remain at a higher speed even when the switch is released.
If the deck engine does not start after a few attempts, shut off the fuel. Crank the deck engine for 10 seconds to clear fuel from the cylinders.
When the deck engine starts, check the oil pressure gauge of the deck engine. If the pressure does not rise within a few seconds, stop the deck engine. Locate the problem before restarting the deck engine.
Hold the "TRUCK RPM INC/DEC" switch in the DEC position for approximately 5 seconds after the deck engine has started. This procedure brings the truck engine to idle speed.
When the deck engine is started and the truck engine is at idle speed, the truck engine can be left on. When the deck engine is started and the truck engine is at idle speed, the truck engine can also be shut off.
After the deck engine starts, operate the deck engine at low idle rpm for 2 to 3 minutes. Allow the jacket water coolant temperature to begin to rise before increasing the rpm of the deck engine. Check the gauges during the warm-up.
Increase the deck engine to 1000 rpm.
Allow the deck engine to warm up until the coolant temperature reaches at least 54 °C (130 °F). You may now operate the deck engine at partial throttle. Wait until the coolant temperature reaches at least 71 °C (160 °F) before operating the deck engine at full throttle. During the warm-up time, all gauges should be checked. A
