TYPICAL EXAMPLE2. Remove spring (1) and disconnect brake linkage (2). Remove bolts from cover. Lift the cover up and remove pin from brake rod. 3. Remove cover (3) from steering clutch compartment.4. Disconnect oil line (6) from cylinder. Loosen nuts (4) and remove rod (5) from yoke (8) and piston. Remove cylinder (7) from steering clutch compartment. 5. Remove piston (9), spring (10), and seal (11) from cylinder. 6. Remove bolts (15) that hold the support for the brake band in the bottom of steering clutch compartment.7. Remove pin (14) from support and remove support.8. Push tractor forward or backward to turn steering clutch. Remove all bolts but two from flange (12) and clutch shaft (13). Flange bolts are removed through side of compartment.9. Fasten a hoist to brake band to support weight of steering clutch. Remove the last two bolts. Use a screw driver or bar to push the steering clutch shaft away from coupling to get clearance for removal of clutch.10. Remove steering clutch. Weight is 200 lb. (90 kg).Install Steering Clutches
See Service Magazine issue October 4, 1977.1. Fasten a hoist and install the steering clutch and brake band into the steering clutch compartment as a unit. Install the pin that holds brake band to support.2. Put 9S3263 Loctite on the threads and install the bolts in the steering clutch shaft. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 90 5 lb. ft. (120 7 N m).3. Install bolts in pinion shaft flange. Tighten bolts to a torque of 100 + 0 - 10 lb. ft. (135 + 0 - 14 N m).4. Install bolts in brake band support.5. Install the seal, spring and piston in cylinder (1). Put 7M7260 Liquid Gasket Material on base of the cylinder. Install the cylinder in the clutch compartment. Connect oil line to cylinder. 6. Move the piston (4) out of cylinder (1) 1 in. (25.4 mm). Make an adjustment to rod (3) so that it is against yoke (2) and the piston. 7. Make an adjustment to bolt (7) which is the stop for the yoke. See TESTING AND ADJUSTING for correct procedure.8. Tighten the brake band adjuster (6) until there is no clearance between band and drum. Tighten the band support bolt until it touches the bottom side of brake band. Then loosen the support bolt 1 1/2 turns.9. Loosen brake band adjuster (6) 3 1/2 turns.

See TESTING AND ADJUSTING for correct procedure. Step 12 is not needed on later machines.12. Connect oil line on bottom of tank.
