Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine or release of air pressure or oil pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To help prevent possible injury before testing and adjusting any air system or hydraulic system, perform the procedure in the Testing and Adjusting, "General Information" section.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Although the parking brake is spring applied, it is still important to remove the air from the parking brake system. Use the following procedure to remove air from the parking brake system.

Start the engine and allow the brake accumulators to fully charge. Stop the engine.
Put the parking brake control valve in the RELEASE position by pushing in the parking brake control knob.
Place a container under bleeder valve (1) and slowly loosen bleeder valve (1) until oil flows out of the valve and into the container.
Allow the oil to flow until there are no air bubbles in the oil. Tighten bleeder valve (1) .Note: Repeat this procedure for bleeder valve (1) in both piston housings (2) .
Fill the hydraulic tank for the steering and brake systems to the correct level.
