Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Lower the scraper bowl to the ground and engage the parking brake. Chock the wheels in order to prevent the machine from moving.
Disconnect the seven lube lines from the steering links.

Remove four bolts (1) , the washers, and two yokes (2) from steering links (3) and (4) . Use a hammer and a brass rod to remove pin (5) from steering links (3) and (4) . Separate steering links (3) and (4) . Repeat the procedure for the other steering links.

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to steering link (3) . Remove four bolts (6) , the washers, two yokes (7) , and lock (8) from steering link (3) . Use a hammer and a brass rod to remove pin (9) from steering link (3) . Remove the steering link from the machine. The steering link weighs 41 kg (90 lb). Repeat the procedure for the other steering link.

Attach a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to steering link (4) . Remove four bolts (10) , the washers, and two yokes (11) from steering link (4) . Use a hammer and a brass rod to remove pin (12) from steering link (4) . Remove spacer (13) . Remove the steering link from the machine. The steering link weighs 45 kg (100 lb). Repeat the procedure for the other steering link.

Use Tooling (A) to remove four bearings (14) from steering link (3) . Repeat the procedure for the other steering links.Installation Procedure

Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Use Tooling (A) to install four bearings (14) to steering link (3) . Install the bearing until the bearing is centered in the steering link. Repeat the procedure for the other steering links.

Use a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to install steering link (4) to the machine. The steering link weighs 45 kg (100 lb). Insert spacer (13) into the hitch. Use a soft faced hammer to install pin (12) to steering link (4) . Install two yokes (11) and four bolts (10) to steering link (4) . Remove the tooling from the steering link. Repeat the procedure for the other steering link.
