Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the unit injector hydraulic pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Unit Injector Hydraulic Pump - Remove".
Remove the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Front Cover - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Disconnect fuel temperature sensor connector (1).

Disconnect atmospheric pressure sensor connector (7).
Disconnect the connector for the turbocharger outlet pressure sensor (6).
Cut wire tie (3). Disconnect hose assemblies (4), (2), and (5). Remove the O-ring seals.
Remove the nut, the washer, and clip (8).

Remove four bolts (10), retainer plate (11), and gear (9).

Disconnect the connectors for two timing sensors (12) from the engine wiring harness. Remove two timing sensors (12) from the front housing.
Remove four mounting bolts (14) from the unit injector hydraulic pump drive. Remove pin (16) and the seal.
Remove two bottom bolts (15) from the unit injector hydraulic pump drive. Remove unit injector hydraulic pump drive (13).
