Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

Use Tooling (A) and a hammer to install lip seal (11) into elevator (10) . Install lip seal (11) with the spring of the lip seal toward the roller.

Use two people to install shaft (6) to elevator (10) . The weight of shaft (6) is approximately 39 kg (85 lb).

Install plug (8) to the elevator. Do not tighten plug (6) at this time.

Use two persons to install roller (7) to the elevator. The weight of roller (7) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb). Push roller (7) against the elevator. Measure the distance between the center of the rollers. To get the correct amount of shims needed, subtract the distance between the rollers from 1194 mm (47 inch). Remove roller (7) from the elevator. Tighten plug (8) .

Install the correct amount of shims (9) that was determined in Step 5 to shaft (6) .

Install roller (7) and hub (3) to the elevator without shims (5) . Measure the end play of the rollers. Push roller (7) against the elevator. Place a piece of flat iron on the elevator and against roller (7) . Then push roller (7) against the hub and measure distance (X) . To get the correct amount of shims needed, subtract distance (X) by 3.0 mm (0.12 inch). Remove the hub from the elevator.

Install the correct amount of shims (5) that was determined in Step 7 to shaft (6) . Install key (4) to shaft (6) .

Install hub (3) to the elevator. Install plate (2) and three bolts (1) to hub (3) . Use a hammer and a wood block to seat the hub on the roller. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 135 15 N m (100 10 lb ft).End By: Install the elevator. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Elevator - Install".
