Part Number    Description    Required Amount
8T-0853     Pressure Gauge     1    This test will determine if one of the following conditions exist.
The test will determine if the oil pressure to the transmission lubrication circuit is good.
If equipped, the test will determine if the oil pressure to the transmission lubrication circuit during retarder operation is good.
If equipped, the test will also determine if the retarder hydraulic control valve and the retarder work correctly.Note: For this test, the oil must be at normal operating temperature.Procedure

Left Side Of Transmission (1) Pressure tap for the transmission lubrication
At pressure tap (1) , connect a hose group to the nipple assembly.
Connect the 8T-0853 Pressure Gauge to the hose.
Start the engine and run the engine at LOW IDLE with the transmission in NEUTRAL. Keep the parking brakes activated. The pressure on the gauge must be a minimum of 7 kPa (1 psi) .
Run the engine at HIGH IDLE rpm with the transmission in NEUTRAL. The pressure on the gauge must be 100 to 200 kPa (15 to 30 psi). If equipped, make sure that the retarder control lever is in the RELEASED position.
To ensure that the transmission oil does not overheat do not keep the torque converter in the stall condition for more than 30 seconds. After the torque converter stall test allow the transmission oil to cool before stopping the engine.
Fully activate the retarder with the engine at HIGH IDLE rpm. The pressure on the gauge must not be more than the pressure in Step 4. Also, the pressure must not be less than 35 kPa (5 psi) under the pressure in Step 4. Make sure that the air pressure is correct.
Place the retarder control lever back to the RELEASED position. The pressure on the gauge and the pressure in Step 4 must be equal. Results
When the retarder is not activated in Step 4 and the oil pressure is too low, refer to Testing and Adjusting, RENR1452, "Torque Converter Outlet Relief Valve Pressure - Test" .
If the retarder is activated in Step 5 and the oil pressure has decreased too much, then the retarder has excessive leakage.
If the oil pressure in Step 6 is not equal to the oil pressure in Step 4, then the retarder hydraulic control valve is malfunctioning.
