Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase Guard - Remove and Install" .
Open the top access panel to the engine hood. Open the side access panel to the engine hood.

The side access panel is removed for photographic purposes.
Remove two bolts (1) and the washers that secure the upper half of fan guard (2) to the lower half of fan guard (3) . Repeat the procedure for the two bolts on the other side of the fan drive.

The top access panel is removed for photographic purposes.
Remove four bolts (4) and the washers that secure the upper half of fan guard (2) to radiator guard (5) . Remove the upper half of fan guard (2) from radiator guard (5) . The weight of the half of the fan guard is 7 kg (15 lb). Repeat the procedure for the four bolts on the lower half of fan guard (3) . Remove the lower half of the fan guard.Installation Procedure
Clean all parts and inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.

The top access panel is removed for photographic purposes.
Position the lower half of the fan guard to the radiator guard. The weight of the lower half of the fan guard is 7 kg (15 lb). Install the four bolts and the washers that secure the lower half of the fan guard to radiator guard (5) . Position the upper half of fan guard (2) to radiator guard (5) . Install four bolts (4) and the washers that secure the upper half of fan guard (2) to radiator guard (5) .

The side access panel is removed for photographic purposes.
Install two bolts (1) and the washers that secure the upper half of fan guard (2) to the lower half of fan guard (3) . Repeat the procedure for the two bolts on the other side of the fan drive.
Close the top access panel to the engine hood. Close the side access panel to the engine hood.End By: Install the crankcase guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankcase Guard - Remove and Install".
