Governor Control Valve (5) Plunger (6) Retainer (7) Spring (8) Valve (9) Piston (10) Exhaust passage (11) Delivery passage (12) Passage in piston (9) to exhaust passage (10) (13) Spring (14) Retainer (15) Spring (16) Supply passageThe speed of the tractor engine is controlled by pedal (2) which activates governor control valve (4) through plunger (5) . The scraper engine is controlled by pedal (1) which activates governor control valve (3) through plunger (5) .The governor control valve uses air pressure to control the engine speed. Air pressure is sent from the governor control valve to an air chamber on the engine. The air chamber is connected to the control lever on the engine governor. When the engine is running and the governor control pedal is released, no air pressure is in the line from the governor control valve to the air chamber. The engine will run at low idle.Push the governor control pedal in order to increase the speed of the engine. As the pedal is pushed, the air pressure from delivery passage (11) to plunger (5) increases. This air pressure will be within the following range: 0 to 415 kPa (0 to 60 psi)Pushing the governor control pedal moves plunger (5) downward. Plunger (5) puts spring (7) in compression. The force of spring (7) will move piston (9) downward to valve (8) . This closes passage (12) to exhaust passage (10) . The movement of piston (9) will move valve (8) downward against the force of spring (13) and spring (15) . Valve (8) will move off the seat in retainer (14) . Pressure air can then go from supply passage (16) to delivery passage (11) and to the air chamber in the scraper engine. When the pressure air in delivery passage (11) and the force of spring (13) and spring (15) becomes more than the force of spring (7) , valve (8) and piston (9) will move up against the force of spring (7) until valve (8) contacts the seat in retainer (14) . This stops the flow of air through supply passage (16) . Valve (8) is in contact with piston (9) . Passage (12) to exhaust passage (10) is still closed. The governor control valve is now in balance. Pressure air is held in the line to the air chamber.
